The Archives+ team were asked if they could help promote and publicise this summer’s Reading Challenge with material from the archives.
A search of the local image collection and Documentary Photographic Archive revealed some fantastic images of crumbling and spooky houses, all the more atmospheric for being in black and white.
Some needed a bit of tweaking to make them truly scary.
Libraries in Beswick, Chorlton, Longsight, Moss Side, Wythenshawe, Harpurhey, Didsbury and the city centre were visited by our intrepid team. Craft activities and archive material relating to the local area were also on offer.
Joanne and Angela even visited Ordsall Hall, looking a lot less spooky in 2013 than it did in 1901.
You can find out more about the Creepy House Summer Reading Challenge at your local library.
