Our thoughts have turned to seaside holidays during this recent heatwave.
Some people were lucky enough to go for day trips or a week’s holiday with their families.
Cinderella Clubs, named after the fairy tale character, were formed to improve the lives of poor children in very practical ways.
The man behind this movement was from Manchester. Robert Blatchford was a journalist, co-founder and editor of the Clarion Newspaper.
His movement inspired other like minded people around the country to form their own Cinderella Clubs. They had a powerful impact on the lives of many children being brought up in harsh and impoverished conditions.
These photographs are from 1910. I’m so glad someone had the camera equipment and the imagination to record these images of the work done by the local Cinderella Club so we can share them more than a century later.
