On Saturday 26 February Archives+ joined in the fun at a Lancashire Archives event to launch a North West LGBT archives project. We set up in the break-out area with a slide show of images ranging from nineteenth-century prison records to Section 28 campaign posters to photos of the Village in the 1960s.
Outing the Past combines archives retrieval, oral history collection and raising the profile and accessibility of archive sources in the academic and archival communities. The day combined academic speakers and ‘talking heads’ speaking movingly about their own life stories of being gay and living in the North West. Thanks to all of the speakers and to Kathryn Rooke, who organised the day, and Jeff Evans, who inspired it.
Visit our websites if you would like to know more about LGBT archives in Manchester or in Lancashire. Or you can follow us on the Outing the Past blog. Please get in touch if you would like to contribute, either by depositing archives or by being interviewed for the oral history archive at the North West Sound Archive.
